in Hospitality 2008

Hotel du Vin and Malmaison are delighted to be the big winners at this year’s Caterer and Hotelkeeper Best Places to Work in Hospitality Awards.

The awards celebrate all that's best about working in the hospitality sector, and presenting the Platinum Award – which goes to the overall winner amongst all the different categories - the judges praised Hotel Du Vin and Malmaison for their high levels of staff satisfaction.

“The awards are a fantastic achievement for us,” said Sean Wheeler, Group Director of People Development for Malmaison. “I am so pleased that the effort everyone puts into making Hotel du Vin and Malmaison a great place to work has been recognised.’

Hotel Du Vin and Malmaison were initially winners in their own category – for best hotel with 11 plus sites - but were later also presented with the prestigious Platinum award. The judges, who included Bob Cotton of the British Hospitality Association and Philippe Rossiter, chief executive of the Institute of Hospitality, said that they were extremely impressed by our innovative ideas. Staff initiatives such as last year’s Housekeeping Olympics, as well as our chef apprenticeship, were complimented for keeping staff educated as well as motivated.

Mark Lewis, Editor of the Caterer editor said: “Winning an award sets out a company as an employer of choice, which is ever more important in this day and age as it can have a major impact on your ability to recruit and retain staff, and in turn your bottom line.”

HOTEL DU VIN PURCHASES THE SUSSEX ARTS CLUB IN BRIGHTON

16/10/07 Hotel du Vin has secured the purchase of the Sussex Arts Club, the adjoining building to its our very successful Hotel du Vin in Brighton.

Robert B. Cook, Hotel du Vin Chief Executive, said, “The purchase of the building is a perfect fit as Brighton has over performed in the marketplace, and the purchase will allow us to create 14 new bedrooms as well as extending the renowned reputation of the bistro within the building.  What, however, is particularly exciting for me is that we will create our first ‘Pub du Vin’ in the ground floor area of the Sussex Arts Club.

This will have all the hallmarks of Hotel du Vin, but creating a very British style pub with a large selection of fine ales and vast selection of wines, which we are already renowned for.  The pub will seat 50 people and will have a very traditional pub fayre using only the best local ingredients.  Work will commence later this year and will open in summer 2008.

This is the first of which Cook hopes will be a roll out of the ‘Pub du Vin’ concept taking the Hotel du Vin reputation through the pub concept into more seaside and countryside locations.

14 new bedrooms will consist of 12 standard rooms and 2 roof top suites, and the existing bistro will be expanded by 30%.
